Jenn Trausch on the Road
One small goal of mine (which will now never be reached) was to make portraits with one of the famous 20x24 polaroid cameras. A few months ago I was hanging out in a print studio with Jenn Trausch, a 20x24 camera operator (and a photographer in her own right), when she mentioned that Polaroid would stop making 20x24 film effectively retiring the camera forever. But before the camera was to be mothballed, she convinced Polaroid to let her go on one last photographic adventure. Wow, this is sad news. I had the fortunate opportunity to use a 20x24 thanks to a special class I took at the San Francisco Art Institute, where I got my photography degree. Thanks, as always, for the great links.
Hi, I'm Amelia. I started phtography about three years ago during eighth grade. Last year, I really became interested in culture and color in photographs and in general. I came across your site on Flickr and I was blown away. Your photos are so genuine and beautiful. Your work is an inspiration. I use a Canon Rebel K2 and the provided lens. Hey Amelia. One of the nice things about having a blog is that eventually you've put so much stuff on it that you can pretty much refer any conversation to some post you made in the past. Here's a post I wrote with photography advice for another student about your age.
As for my cameras I mainly use a Nikon FM2 with a 24mm lens or a Mamiya 7 with a 43mm lens. On your Canon a 14mm lens would be the equivalent which is about as wide as you can get without introducing lots of distortion. I like wide lenses because that's how I see the world, but you have to figure out what works best for you.
The other advice I have for your particular camera is to shoot in RAW format at a relatively low ISO. RAW give you lots of latitude with correcting for difficult lighting situations.
Also bring lots of memory cards. You'll need them!
